Expeditious Retreat Press looking for 1e/OSRIC modules

Over at K&KA Joseph Browning is soliciting for adventure manuscripts for the Advanced Adventures line.

Right now only two more are in the works

The Desert Shrine of the Sightless Sisters (will probably be out in June) - and after that I've only the one I'm working on, Aerie of the Cloud Giant Strategos (follow up in the Giant series)

OSRIC/1E seems to be the red headed step child of the OSR these days so it will be nice to have more adventures for it.

RIP Richard Tucholka

While not OSR, Richard Tucholka was most certainly old school, being the creator of numerous RPGs back in the early 80s such as Bureau 13 and Fringeworthy.

Back in the 90s I was a huge fan of B13 and knew him slightly from AOL and such.

New OSR Products at DTRPG/RPGNow — April 25th, 2017

Fairly busy week. Also some new (I guess) Mazes & Minotaurs stuff

Official

DLQ1 Knights Sword -  Starter adventure for one of the various Dragonlance reboots (in this case, Tales of the Lance). $4.99 and 32 pages.

DLQ2 Flint's Axe - Another intro adventure as above. $4.99 32 pages.

Mystara Dungeon Master's Survival Kit - Did any Mystara DM actually ask for this? I'm not even sure what it is, exactly, but it's part of TSR's ill fated attempt to AD&D-ize Mystara. 56 pages, $4.99

Adventures

DP1 Goshahri The City in a Cave -  More an adventure location than adventure. 19 pages and $2.75

Dwarves of Copper Gulch -  Low level adventure for Swords & Wizardry. 11 pages, PWYW

Return to Fel'Valashar -  S&W adventure. 16 pages, PWYW

UR1 The Tomb of the Sea Kings - This used to be on Lulu. Uses that Planet Eris house rules for OD&D.  $5.75 and 36 pages

Rules

One Page OSR Firearms Rules -  What it sounds like PWYW.

Misc

Castle Oldskull: The Classic Dungeon Design Guide II -  400+ more pages on how to design dungeons. $4.99

Friday Freebie Enhanced Map 4-21-17 - A bit simpler than usual, but still pretty neat. $1 for enhanced version.

New OSR Products at RPGNow/DTRPG — April 18th, 2017

Released my first module in a year (see below for details). It's so strange though, people seem to download them more than character classes, but they are more likely to not pay anything for them. My previous module brought in $8 total in a year (minus the cut) and this one is doing  better at $4.15 and 84 downloads. But my last class has had 68 downloads and brought in a whopping $12.81. And my previous class which I released last month, so far this month has only 17 downloads, but brought in $3.

As I am not really looking to make money, it's more curious than anything else. But I do use it to buy stock art from DTRPG. The classes tend to pay for themselves almost immediately (even when I splurged for the $10 pic of the barbarian lady), but modules basically lose money.

Official

DLS New Beginnings -  Sadly, I think Dragonlance reached Highlander levels of milking, always trying to re-capture the magic and success of the original modules/novels.  This is more of an introductory play aid than anything else. 32 pages, $4.99

DLA3 Dragon's Rest - Conclusion of the Taladas trilogy which I have no memory of whatsoever. . 64 pages, $4.99

Elminster's Ecologies -  This combines two things I hated the most in Dragon magazine, long winded ecologies about a fantasy monster and Elminster rambling on. Ugh. But if you like those, this is for you.  288 pages and $9.99

Powers & Pantheons -  Late 2e book about the gods of the Forgotten Realms.  $9.99 and 192 pages.

The Silver Key - Orc themed low level adventure from the last days of 2e. 36 pages, $4.99

Adventures

HS4 The Forge of Ilmarinen - Or get it here from my Google Drive (if I've done it correctly). Short mid level (5-7) dungeon crawl with lots of monsters taken from Pathfinder. 15 page, PWYW

The Tall Witch -  This is for a system I'm not familiar with, but is pretty generic OSR. It's quite interesting, but it uses the LotFP "Screw You" method of scenario design, where the PCs may or may not be unwilling murderers based on a random die...

Which is silly, because basically it assumes that their world doesn't exist. That they couldn't go and do research on the legends of the monsters they are supposed to defeat, or god forbid, use divination magic. 26 pages (single column), PWYW.

Rules

Desperate & Hungry -  Misery tourism comes to the OSR. 15 pages, PWYW

Magic Madness 3: Spells for OSR Game -  33 new spells. 35 pages, $2.50

Misc

Friday Freebie Enhanced Map - 4-14-17 - Neat looking dungeon that looks like a temple complex. $1 for enhanced version.

Rob Kuntz's book on Dave Arneson now available...

I've often thought that those two share a great similarity - people with great ideas who have trouble actually putting them down on paper, while EGG might not have been the best at that, but could churn out stuff when he had to.

Anyway, it seems that Rob Kuntz did actually manage to finish the book, albeit only 72 pages/ At $19.99 plus shipping, I'll be giving it a pass, but probably an interesting read for an hour or so.

New OSR Products at RPGNow/DTRPG — April 11th, 2017

Pretty slow week, though if you like Hero, they just dumped a boat (make that oil tanker) load of Hero/Champions 4th edition stuff. I could never really get into it myself, but I know it has its fans.

Official

DLA1 Dragon Dawn -  I don't think they ever came close to re-capturing the feel or success of the original Dragonlance stuff, but they kept trying. This module is from 1990. 64 pages, $4.99

MSOLO2 - Maze of the Riddling Minotaur -  One of the invisible ink modules for BD&D.  $4.99 and 32 pages

Swords & Spells - Basically Chainmail 2.0.  48 pages, $4.99

The Ruins of Myth Drannor - One of the sort of annoying things about the FR megadungeons is that they were essentially only published as frame works. Basically here's some minor stuff, go make it yourself.  But you didn't really need to spend $30 on a boxed set for that, did you? 160 pages, $9.99

Adventures

Guests for Dinner - Short low level "funnel" type adventure. PWYW and 10 pages

Rules

Magic Madness 2: Spells for OSR Games - 32 new spells for OSR games, 29 pages, $2.50

Misc

Friday Freebie Enhanced Map 4-7-17 - Looks like a fairly complex Temple er, complex. $1 for enhanced version.

New OSR Products at RPGNow/DTRPG — April 5th, 2017

Sorry, a day late, my internet was out last night because of thunderstorms (yay for Satellite).

Well, that and I was engrossed in a new space 4x game called Stars in Shadow.  It's not as good as MoO2, but better than the most recent one.

Official

Dark Sun Campaign Setting (Expanded & Revised) -  One of the things about the Dark Sun setting is that it had an ongoing plot that was mostly told in the novels which radically changed things. Which resulted in them having to re-do the setting .  288 pages, $2.99

DLS2 Tree Lords - Dragonlance adventure about wood elves. $4.99, 32 pages.

DLS3 Oak Lords -  Dragonlance adventure about wood elves. $4.99, 32 pages

Joshun's Almanac - The Known World/Mystara was essentially built with the D&D rules, not AD&D. For whatever reason, TSR decided to scrap D&D and make Mystara an AD&D world.  And as part of the change, they dumped the Poor Wizard's Almanac and changed it o Joshuns. They also dropped a lot of the neat aspects of the settings - the various militaries (since AD&D had no war system, really) $9.99 and 240 pages (it's digest sized, so not a good deal, even if it weren't a terrible book)

Adventures

The Snake's Heart -  Apparently originally a White Box adventure, now retooled for Mazes & Perils.  32 pages and for low level characters. $8.99

The Temple of Fartamental Evil -  Comedy adventure (as you can likely guess). 20 pages, PWYW.

Rules

Microlight74 Ultimate Edition Digest/Epub -  Epub version of the popular OSR game. 384 pages and $9.95

Misc

Friday Freebie Enhanced Map 3-31-2017 - Pretty fancy looking dungeon level, looks like there is a swimming pool. $1 for enhanced version.

Frog God Games having an anniversary sale

I personally don't have much use for their stuff as a) I don't like Swords & Wizardry and b) Most of their stuff is designed originally for 3e or 5e and half-assedly back converted to S&W which gives awful results.

Bit if you feel otherwise, they are having a 35% off sale with the code ANNIV7

Which means their products are still overpriced by about 50%, but still... Barakus and Stoneheart Valley (or the stuff that made it up) were excellent 3e adventures.

Good  til the 7th.
